About this centre
Located in the Tanjong Pagar / Chinatown area, Maxwell Food Centre is one of Singapore’s most iconic hawker destinations, with roots dating back to the 1930s when it began as Maxwell Market before being redeveloped into a full-fledged food centre in 1987. Today, it houses around 100 cooked-food stalls offering a wide variety of local classics, multicultural dishes and heritage favourites. Popular fare such as chicken rice, porridge, traditional kueh and desserts can all be found here. With its bustling atmosphere, long communal tables and constant queues at famous stalls, Maxwell Food Centre remains a must-visit culinary hub for both locals and visitors seeking authentic Singapore hawker culture.
