Xiaobaitu the Meek

I had one of the best mee hoon kueh from 海兰! I am very picky about my noodles so i am delighted whenever i have noodles that has integrity and has a satisfying chew going (i.e. not soggy), and so my spirits was lifted today with this wonderful bowl of hand made kueh ❤️ Besides the kueh, this comes with hearty chunks of marinated minced meat that have a lot of umami to the broth. The base of the broth was also robust and can hold itself well on its own. The combination of fresh greens, egg, fried shallots and ikan bilis definitely elevated the entire dish (note: quite a big serving, it looks small in this photo cos the spoon was a giant one). Lady who made this meal was really friendly too, n they do not use disposable utensils (big plus for me). My meal cost $4 :) I be back to try the other dishes!

These prices are hard to beat (S$4 for ban mian, March 2025). I would visit again if I wanted a cheap but decent noodle soup. There are some understandable tradeoffs at this price point. The ban mian texture was not great but still okay. The egg yolk came pre-scrambled. But, again — these are fairly unreasonable requests at S$4.

The ban mian was filling. Although it was handmade, it was rather thick, preferred for it to be thin. Too much msg, thirsty for water. Better to be known for their dumplings.

Friendly female boss. Mee hoon kueh was nicely handmade, and the fish soup was light yet still good and flavourful. Thick slices of mackerel at affordable price too

Had their seafood Tom yam soup with rice. Don't expect it to be a thai spicy Tom yam, but rather a Chinese style fish/seafood soup with mild spice kick. The shrimps are fresh, and the fish and squids are also nice.
