We arrived about 11am & just as well as before we knew it the Maxwell Food Centre was buzzing & tables were hard to source. The owner was very accommodating & was happy to change the dish for us as we wanted 1/2 steamed & 1/2 roasted chicken. Chicken was succulent & very flavoursome! Surprises were the banging condiments....ginger & chilli sauces. As well as the complimentary soup. It was a clear broth with a small piece of sweet corn. That broth was sensational- jam packed with chicken & corn flavours. It not only tasted good, it felt very nourishing. Definitely recommend!

At the popular Maxwell Food Centre in the heart of Singapore's Chinatown, Uncle Louis has the longest lines of any of the countless food stalls, over half of which are closed on a typical weeknight. This is a clear indication of local popularity, and Hainanese Chicken Rice is one of the most heralded Singaporean dishes. Unfortunately, their food is completely underwhelming. The quality is fine and it's safe for Western stomachs. But there is just nothing spectacular about the chicken nor the pork nor the rice. I make a far better version at home in the states.

The chicken is succulent. Tried this because I didn't want to queue for Tian Tian (super long queue). And it was really good!! The soup is lotus peanut today. The whole set costs $7. 😊

We didn’t really enjoy the steamed chicken here in comparison to other places - it was the only place that didn’t remove the red colored bone which was hard to separate with the provided plastic forks. Other stalls didn‘t serve with bone and some provide metal cutlery.

Today, Donkey and I stumbled upon Uncle Louis Famous Chicken Rice while exploring Maxwell Market in search of an Indian temple offering milk baths for Ganesha. We were drawn to the long queue, as we had been craving for chicken rice. We opted for the mixed plate, featuring white chicken, roasted chicken, roasted crispy pork, and char siew. The mixed plate was a good sampler of their offerings, but honestly, it wasn't as mind-blowing as we'd hoped. While the chicken was okay, it wasn't exceptional. However, I did thoroughly enjoy the roasted crispy pork - the meat was tender and the skin was perfectly crispy. The long queue and the stall's popularity might make you think it's a must-try, but in our opinion, it wasn't worth the wait. While the food was decent, it didn't stand out as particularly memorable or exceptional. Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Tips: ● If you're looking for a quick and affordable chicken rice fix, it's worth a try. ● The roasted crispy pork is a highlight, so consider adding that to your order. ● Be prepared for a long wait, especially during peak hours.
