Don’t think it’s fair to the hawkers for being reviewed for their service standards. If you want service, go to a restaurant that charges 10% service charge for a dedicated restaurant manager to serve you. Tong Fong Fatt does authentic hainanese chicken rice. It’s the real deal, just look at the glistening soy sauce and oils. They even have tomato and cucumber slices with cilantro thrown in. They make the one of the best rice too, full of ginger flavour. If you eat chicken innards, I highly recommend getting the gizzard and liver. Perfectly cooked.

I ordered a chicken rice set, but they charged me more than the stated price. tried to gaslight and acted like that higher price was correct until I pointed to the listed price list, then they switched bait and pretended they had asked me to pay the listed price and got angry like i was in the wrong for making a fuss. it's one thing to be rude and unfriendly, but to be dishonest ... honestly, is the extra $1.50 worth giving the stall a reputation for overcharging and trying to scam customers? only realised afterwards that others have encountered similar behaviour online

We were in Singapore for a short trip before going back to Canada. We went to Maxwell Food Center, intentionally to try Hainanese Chicken Rice at Tian Tian. Unfortunately that was on Monday, Tian Tian was closed (we hadn't checked Google). So we moved to Tong Fong Fatt. Very despaired about the quality of both chicken and rice (too cold and tasteless). Especially the attitude of the lady in the counter, she looked so grumpy, with rude gestures. Maybe she was tired. Our appetite disappeared after seeing her!

Probably the most mid, bland and generic chicken rice you would find in Singapore. Despite that, it was still edible, however, nothing special enough to warrant the horrible service given. Lady stared at me like i personally robbed her and her family when she asked if i wanted the $5 and i replied $4 instead. And if that wasn’t enough, when I politely requested for black sauce (a very unreasonable request, i know!), the lady death glared for a good 5 seconds before slamming the table and dunking the sauce into the takeaway bag. 5 stars for performance but 0 for service. Honestly, it’s the kind of meal you forget five minutes after finishing if not for the service, which was the only thing that left a lasting impression.

Proper chicken succulent, fragrant rice, chili sauce packs a punch. Reasonable price without long queues.
