About this centre
Located in the Cairnhill–Newton area just a short walk from Newton MRT and close to Orchard Road, Newton Food Centre is one of Singapore’s most iconic and well-known hawker destinations. Originally opened in 1971 as Newton Circus Hawker Centre, it was the first garden-style hawker centre designed to complement Singapore’s “garden city” concept and was later renovated before reopening in 2006. Today, it houses around 83 stalls offering a wide range of local favourites such as BBQ seafood, Hokkien mee, popiah, satay and fried carrot cake. Popular with both locals and tourists, Newton is often rated by food lovers as one of the best hawker centres in Singapore. With its lively atmosphere and vibrant dining scene, it becomes especially crowded during dinner and supper hours, making it a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Singapore’s hawker culture.
