Millennium Glutinous Rice

The plate of 糯米饭 has a generous amount of peanuts and fried shallots for $2. However, the rice was too dry for my liking. Also, disappointed that everything was served in disposables even for dine-in.

Very lucky to get there at 830am and no queue. The queue starts forming after I am done. The stall don't light up so I hesitated if I came too late and it was sold out. Lucky boss said it is open. I chose the mixed one but still prefer savoury. Nothing exceptional on the taste but what was great is cooking the texture to the right softness.

A must eat every time we’re here! We’ve had the salty and the sweet and both are delicious! We do prefer the salty version. It’s surprisingly hearty and we prefer sharing one packet to leave room for other food! The flavor reminds me of the simple glutinous rice with peanuts I had as a kid. I’ve introduced it to the younger generation in our family and they now crave it too 😂

While the food trend now focuses on "Old School" taste and food, I bet this stall best fits in the trend category. The stall sells nothing but just glutinous rice. This glutinous rice is a hertiage dish and such a dish has become rare in Singapore. The Glutinous Rice comes in 2 variations, sweet or salty. We had ordered the mixed version that is not shown on the menu. I'm not a glutinous rice lover but the first bite had sold me away. It was savoury and definitely rich in flavours. It was addictive and I had mouth after mouth of it for both the sweet as well as the salty portion. The fried shallots were charred and its oil elevated the taste of the sweet and salty glutinous rice. Not forgetting those plain peanuts that gave a distinctive texture among the bites. The peanuts were firm on the outside but soft on the inside. Though it's simple and made up of just Glutinous Rice, Peanuts and Fried Shallots, the processes in the kitchen may be tedious especially to get the glutinous rice at the perfect texture. Glutinous Rice - $2 The queue was long in the morning and when we had finished our breakfast, I saw that they have already done with the business for the day with their roller shutter rolled down.

A simple $2.50 pack of glutinous rice topped with peanuts and a scoop of crispy shallots. While the flavors were decent, the portion size was quite small. Waited around 15 minutes in line—honestly, it’s worth a try only if there’s no queue.
