You wouldn't really find this kind of place in Singapore as often anymore, as this is a dying trade. It's incredibly rare to find a store that only sells three items. I have to say that the queue for this store is very much justified. The fried rice noodles, while simple and plain, are actually really flavorful, and the bean sprouts are perfectly crispy. This is a must-order when you're here. I also saw some people eating the fish porridge with peanuts and fish, which is very watery, together with the noodles. This is a very interesting fish porridge, rich in umami, and doesn't have many ingredients.

Taste: The fried bee hoon here is simple and familiar, but not particularly outstanding. Compared to the flavors I remember from my younger days, the taste now feels a little muted and far behind those nostalgic standards. It’s straightforward, filling, but lacks the spark that once made it special. Experience: What keeps me coming back isn’t the dish itself, but the memories it carries. Each plate reminds me of the past — the times when food felt warmer, more soulful, and tied to childhood moments. Eating here is less about savoring flavors and more about revisiting those sweet memories. Verdict: This stall may not win awards for taste today, but it holds something more valuable: nostalgia. For me, buying the bee hoon is like buying a piece of my own history. And that’s why I’ll keep returning.

This is a super popular with the locals, u'll normally spot a line for this. They are basically selling only 3 items, fried been hoon, fried yellow noodles & porridge. Most of them will order a been hoon & Porridge. I'll normally go for their been hoon. Very old skool taste, nothing fancy, taste of the fragrance of soy. Serving is small, hence most people will go for 2 or more portions.

Perhaps less celebrated than others, but frequently featuring a longer line of locals than anywhere else at Chinatown Complex Food Centre, Chang Ji Gourmet offers just three plates at S$1.30 with each fairly simple but crafted with care. Not a place for proteins, though Fish and Peanut Porridge has its fans, the go-to at Chang Ji Gourmet is Rice Vermicelli called Bee Hoon or thicker Fried Mee each tender yet springy in a mix of Soya, Sprouts, Garlic and Onion with Chili Paste offered on the side.
