Bedok Chwee Kueh

It's not a bad chwee kueh stall, but it's also not great. I wished that they'd kept their standards a fair bit more consistent across all Bedok Chwee Kueh stalls around the country. In any case, the kueh here is a fair bit too wide and big, chewy. The chai poh is a tad bit too salty, without as much umami. If you're here for local food as a tourist, this is a good representation regardless, and you should get it. Saving grace is how, for the price paid, it's considered relatively fairly priced for today's standards.

Traditional chwee kueh with preserved radish vegs.one of the best and in Chinatown food complex. Reinvented to bigger size now, 2 for $1.20..3 for $1.80 and 4 for $2.40. Still super cheap snack. Not many hawkers like this left.

All the flavour and fragrance were from the radish and sauce on top of it, the water cake was totally bland. But overall it was really good and tasty. However the hawker aunty was quite rude, i just ordered it, then she shouted and swiped her hand in front of me to give way to the people behind me.

Having my favourite Chwee Kueh (@Chinatown Complex牛车水大厦, Level 2)- a popular breakfast item in Singapore, is a traditional rice cake topped with diced sweet-savoury chai poh (preserved radish) and served with sambal chilli.
