I came across the Sabah Sandakan UFO tart stall at Hong Lim Market and it was such a wonderful find! The tart is really unique – soft and fluffy base with a smooth creamy topping that melts in your mouth. It’s not too sweet, just the right balance that makes you want to eat more than one. They have a few flavours available, but my favourites are the original and the pandan. The pandan has a nice fragrance and feels very local, but personally I love the original the most because it really brings out the authentic taste of the Sandakan UFO tart. The staff at the stall are also very friendly and welcoming, patiently explaining the flavours and even recommending how best to enjoy them. It feels good to see such warm service together with a delicious snack. The tarts are freshly made, and you can taste the effort and heart put into every piece. If you are at Hong Lim Market, I would highly recommend stopping by and trying these UFO tarts. It’s not something you see everywhere in Singapore, and once you try it, you will understand why it’s so popular in Sabah. Definitely a must-try!

Recently I tried this super cute UFO Tart, and it totally lived up to its name! There are two flavours — egg mayo and pandan. Personally, I prefer the pandan one because it’s fragrant and just the right amount of sweetness, but the egg mayo version is also quite nice in its own way. Each tart costs only $1.50, which is really affordable 💰! At first, I thought the white topping was whipped cream, but the friendly lady boss told me it’s actually meringue made from whipped egg white. It’s light, fluffy, and not greasy at all — I ended up eating three in one go 😋. I’ve already gone back to buy it a few times. The lady boss is super nice and friendly too! Just make sure to go early, because there’s usually a long queue during lunchtime (but don’t worry, the line moves fast). She also mentioned that chocolate 🍫 and matcha 🍵 flavours will be coming soon — can’t wait to try them!

I noticed the banner for this new stall right at the hawker centre entrance and was intrigued by the cute shape. I never had a Sabah UFO Tart before, and so I bought all 3 flavours (Original, Kaya, and Chocolate) to try, for a total of $4.90. The base of the tart is actually soft and aromatic, like an egg sponge cake. The meringue was well-sweetened, and I particularly liked the Kaya one. While this isn't spectacular, I think this novelty item is worth checking out if you are in the area. Bonus: They accept CDC vouchers.

Tried the UFO Tarts here recently — Original, Pandan, and Chocolate — and they’re all so good! 😍 My favourite is the Original, soft, aromatic, and not too sweet — just right! For chocolate lovers, there’s a rich Chocolate flavor, and those who enjoy local taste will love the fragrant Pandan delight. At only $1.50–$1.70 each, it’s such a great little treat. They even pack them nicely in boxes of 2, 3 or 6 pcs — perfect for sharing or gifting! 🎁 I kept 2 pcs overnight in the fridge and they still tasted wonderfully soft and flavorful the next day. Suitable for young and elderly, and pairs perfectly with coffee or tea ☕🍵 Definitely coming back for more!🥰🥰🥰

I was surprised to come across this light dessert from Sandakan right here at Hong Lim Hawker Centre. I had the chance to try it in Sandakan years ago, and both the taste and appearance are very similar to the original. It’s soft, light and fluffy, though with prices ranging from $1.50 to $1.90 per piece, I do wonder about the long-term sustainability of the business. Perhaps it needs to diversify to bring in more indigenous products from sandakan.
