My partner and I travel around the island in search of good food, and the concentric circles of our paths would somehow always converge at Ho Kee. Run by an affable, warm-hearted gent and his wife, Ho Kee is the quintessential Singaporean Tze Char. Nothing fancy, just comforting dishes served fresh and piping hot. The proprietor, Uncle Teo is in his eighties but still very energetic and capable. Some of the dishes we'd recommend - Steamed Squid (sotong), Fried Prawn Paste Chicken (har cheong gai), Tom Yum seafood, Egg Fried Rice & Basil Fried Pork (pad kra pow). In my opinion, the true Singaporean hawker experience is rapidly diminishing. True blue hawkers like Mr Teo will one day be replaced by chain restaurants, Mainland Chinese establishments and lacklustre chefs - unless something drastically happens to truly preserve our unique culture.

Had mui fan for dinner - savoury, hearty & very satisfying. The portion was generous & overflowing with ingredients, all soaked in a rich, flavourful gravy that paired perfectly with rice. A comforting, old-school zi char dish done well. The stall is run solo most of the time by a hardworking elderly uncle who handles everything from cooking to taking orders. Respect for his dedication & consistency.

Tze char stall run by an elderly uncle. We ordered fried prawn fritters which were really yummy, batter was light and tasty without being overly greasy and the prawns were sweet and fresh. Stir fried morning glory(kangkong) was however pretty average and disappointing. Would definitely go back for the fried prawns when I’m in the area for food.

Paid around $41 for the prawn paste chicken, sotong, sambal kangkong and stir fried sweet potato leaves. I really liked the sambal kangkong and the prawn paste chicken but I think the sotong needs a little but more batter. Uncle is old so maybe need to be more patient. But overall it’s pretty value for money!

Will be back! Homely meal cooked by 80+ one man operation. Inexpensive.
