They are located in a very prime piece of real estate off Hong Lim hawker centre, like the Mecca of great food in the Core City area. If you cross over from Chinatown Point 2nd level you can't miss this. Amply stocked trays of offerings usually and a great Nasi Lemak feel. Though you don't see them get featured anywhere on or offline. For a Sunday morning Tabao, when 90% of Hong Lim stalls are closed, let's give it a try. A look at their menu, they are really affordable. It's a hubby and wife team, selling typical Nasi Lemak fare, but you're forgiven if you think they are a Muslim food outlet given the feel and presentation. Do you know they even offer Lontong? Anyhow I went for the typical. Chicken wing set. $3.50. Fairly typical of a try out, cos looking at the offerings display, unfortunately any potential add-ons evaporated. Kinda look like for a slow Sunday, to reduce wastage, keep things small, easy and slow. Some might even get a bit dry. Ten minutes after purchase, the verdict. The greenish Nasi Lemak rice is lightly fragrant with hints of coconut milk and panda. Unfortunately for me, they are clumpy and mushy. Probably because they were kept on warming in the rice cooker for quite awhile and the packed up home only serves to make it worse. The fried egg, done Western breakfast style, while it looked great and still yield a runny yolk, when it cooled you have a plasticky firm, not a great experience with rice. Lastly the fried Chicken Wings. While it is moist and well marinated, unfortunately no longer crispy. Hard in some places and soggy in others. Could be due to packing but more I think, in much too early preparation on a slow day. I did asked for more chilli and they did doled out more. Its a tat much too sweet than savoury, and kinda watery. You're also given cucumber and fried ikan bilis with peanuts. The tiny, crispy fishes and chilli's does helped with the rice. Still for a $3.50 set, I wouldn't complain so much. Quite a value these days especially in town. But would I try again? Most Probably not. Definitely nothing close to Punggol Nasi Lemak
