My favorite part of this bowl is how it all comes together. As a complete dish, it is delicious. Every bite of noodles gets an accompany with something different - you wont get bored throughout the meal. A silky smooth skinned meaty and flavourful wanton, a nice strong dried fish slice (ti po), tang oh vegetable, stewed mushrooms, pork slices, pork lard, minced pork, and my absolutely fav, the fishball. The fishball is soft, with a small spring, much like a teochew fish cake, but springy-er. Personally, its unique to any other fish ball i’ve tried. Ah Seng makes it himself. I bought two boxes back to cook for CNY steamboat at the start of this year. I’ll do it again next year. I usually add fishballs when i eat here. The meal includes chinese celery, which i like how its flavour adds depth. For people who have aversions, can request to dont add. Haha. This wholesome meal keeps me coming back. I’ve tried the other long queue, famous names in hong lim. This is by far, easily, my favourite.

There's a really popular one just across but they were sold out for the day. I tried this to satisfy my cravings and pleasantly surprised by the quality! The chef on this day put his heart and soul into the cooking process I told myself I had to finish the serving even though it might be too much ( the serving was really generous for the price point! ). The salted anchovies on top is better to eat with the noodles. And oh! There's a couple of streamed dumplings on the serving and they were great 😃 The fishall could be a bit more firm but to each of their own preferences! It still delicious overall and I had to review :D

Had a bowl of mee kia dry for $7 this morning. Portion was generous & came with a good variety of ingredients - minced pork, braised mushrooms, fishballs & dumplings. The sauce mix was balanced with a savoury & slightly tangy profile without being too oily. The mee kia was cooked just right, with a springy texture that held up well. The soup on the side has a clean, comforting flavour. The fishballs had a nice bite to them. Overall, it was a satisfying & hearty bowl.

I orderd the mushroom minced meat noodles ($6). The soup was rich and flavorful, noodles perfectly cooked and al dente. Dumplings was full of juicy meat with a great bite to it. And the handmade fishballs? You can tell from the uneven texture – so authentic, springy and delicious! Plus, the small piece of fried stingray was a delightful surprise, ties the whole dish together with its rich umami flavour. MUST TRY!!

Is this the Ah Seng Bak Chor Mee from Albert Food Centre? In 2020, Ah Seng's took over the spot vacated by the famed Ah Kow Bak Chor Mee after the elderly seller retired. I couldn't find any info on whether this Ah Seng stall is the same, or is related to, the Albert Food Centre one though (which has closed, so it could be). About the noodles - the $6 bowl had the requisite premium ingredients, esp. dried sole fish, stewed mushrooms, and, importanly, lard. Taste-wise, the noodles were the alkaline-type, and overall I felt the bowl was a little under-sauced so the noodles were dry. There was also a certain imbalance, and I felt like something was missing. So while it certainly was an above-average bowl of BCM, I wouldn't make a trip to Hong Lim Centre for this.
