Ser Kee Restaurant (Duck)

Random find on a quiet Saturday afternoon - such an awesome braised duck rice! A one-woman operation, she chops and slices duck meat skilfully. One has to wait for their turn and pays in cash. Their braise sauce has got to be one of the lightest (if not the lightest!) sauce I’ve ever had drizzled on the white rice - and yet it still has flavour? Not overly herbal? Duck meat is not gamey at all, the chilli sauce complements the meat perfectly. It almost has a slight creamy taste to it? I seriously don’t know how they do it but googling the Ser Kee name returns some historical info so this yummy goodness has only got to do with decades of experience! WILL COME BACK AGAIN JUST FOR THIS

The food is good and the portions are great, though there is a sever lack of service rendered. It’s cash only and the lady runs the stall all by herself, so that is respectable though it makes for a less than optimal experience to order. We wanted 2pax portion with extra meat but have to update to ½ duck to accommodate the owner haha. Honestly the fare is delicious for the amount paid, though the chilli could be better, sauces could be had on top of the plain rice and perhaps even variety of other pairing dishes could come along too. Overall it’s more of a blue for money braised duck meal. Not bad

This Hawker Center has lots of underrated stalls. Reason for not trying the last years because they do not serve noodles. Decided to give it go today. Order drum, gizzards and hearts. They are well braised. Meat is tender. Gizzards and hearts are not over cooked. Most importantly, the chillis sauce is one of the best matched. A bit spicy. $7.50 is definitely affordable!

This stall sells simple fare, only braised items and white rice. But everything were cooked to perfection, simply delicious. Duck was moist while pork belly was flavourful. A plate with this two combi cost $8. Portion was reasonable. It is a one woman operation so be prepared to wait. Cash only.

Fun hawker center, mostly locals. I waited 30 minutes to be served. As I was waiting I gave a spoon to my wife from this stall (she got her food from another vendor) and got yelled at. The guy in front of me was slow to pay and also got yelled at. On a positive note the duck was delicious and it was a very interesting experience.
