I wanted some fish soup and this is the only shop that is opened on a Monday. I didn’t know about the bad reviews prior. I thought the soup has good umami and decent number of fish slices. One thing to note is the menu stated $5/$7. The lady actually asked if I wanted $6/$7. I told her I wanted the cheapest one, and she said, ‘okay, $5.’ So take note of this.

The food is quite average but the service was particularly terrible. The woman who took my order wasn’t upfront about the prices and tried to upsell me. She asked me whether I wanted $7 or $8 for the fish soup beehoon, and when I asked what was the lowest price, she refused to answer and went on to ask me if I wanted to add egg without telling me the extra cost. It was only after I asked how much to add egg that she said it costs $1 more. The customer after me was very “generous” (in the woman’s words) as he ordered a $10 fish soup beehoon. There was a noticeable difference between how she spoke to me and prepared my order and how she spoke to him and prepared his order. I know this because I also ordered popiah from the stall next door and was observing the whole process. This will be the last time I order from them since I don’t see why I can’t get fish soup beehoon of similar or better quality but with better customer service from other stalls there, such as the Jun Yuan House of Fish in the row behind.

Not one for me unfortunately. Dish ordered: Fried Fish Soup w/ thick bee hoon Fried fish: Fresh and batter was not greasy Vegetables: Fresh and well-cooked Starch: Thick bee hoon well cooked Condiment: Ginger Garlic Chili Padi - nice Broth: The main thing that brings this dish together for me, and it gives me no joy to say this, was a complete let down. There was no freshness and tasted like old cooking grease and had a muddy/overly earthy taste. No brightness, no acidity, no sweetness and let the whole dish completely down. The wrong side of flat. Would be more than ok if the broth was reworked as the rest of the ingredients were good. Unfortunately I have to agree with most of the not so favourable reviews; and will try all others in the same food center before revisiting this one.
