Hokkien Mee Review - Old Airport Road (#01-99) This stall serves a wet-style Hokkien Mee with a noticeable hint of wok hei, adding a pleasant smoky aroma. While the noodles were well cooked, the prawn flavour was on the milder side compared to other versions I’ve tried. The $8 plate came with four prawns, along with a reasonable amount of pork and sotong strips. The ingredients helped enhance the overall taste, though I personally prefer my Hokkien Mee less soupy. Overall, it was a satisfying and reasonably priced plate, especially if you’re not too picky. The experience ultimately comes down to the choice of noodles, which plays a big role in the final flavour and texture.

Old Airport Road Hokkien Mee has all the hallmarks of a stall that knows its craft: a steady queue, wok hei drifting across the hawker centre, and a plate that looks the part with its mix of noodles, prawns, and rich, slightly sticky gravy. The execution is competent—savory, a little smoky, and not overly greasy. But in truth, the flavour profile lands squarely in the “average but reliable” category; nothing is off, yet nothing quite pushes it into the memorable tier either. To be fair, part of this might be me. I’ve never been a big fan of Hokkien Mee to begin with, so my own bias inevitably colours the experience. The dish’s characteristic heavy gravy and soft noodles aren’t what I gravitate toward, so even a well-made version doesn’t fully win me over. For someone who loves this style, the stall probably hits the expected notes. But for my palate, it’s more of a “decent, tried it once, good enough” kind of meal rather than something I’d return for.

The quest to find the nicest plate of Hokkien Mee continues. The wait for this plate wasn’t too long on a Friday night. This plate of Hokkien mee was the wet version and it had noticeable Wok Hei. But the strong and savoury prawn taste was muted , compared to others that I have tried. Got 4 pieces of prawn for the $8 plate and the rest of the amount of ingredients like pork and sotong strips were adequate. I felt the taste enhanced the overall taste of the mee. If you are at this hawker centre I do recommend to patronise this stall, the $8 is worth it.

The fried Hokkien mee taste was pretty average. Lacked that essential wok hei, and the chilli was quite mild, not much kick. Waited around 15 mins, though I’ll say the portion was generous with ingredients. Still, overall, not really worth the queue in my opinion.

Waited over half an hour with a huge queue in front of us around 8pm on a Sunday night. Typically you would think it's worth the wait, but it's not. Got the $8 portion, which was quite a huge plate. So maybe I'll update to 2 stars for the portion size. No flavor at all despite how wet it was, so I'm not sure if it's water only without any sauces. But they sure used a lot of MSG. So why no flavor at all? It's indeed a mystery You could taste the charred flavor on the noodles (noodles only) but it isn't wok hei, just charred bits. the pork had no flavor and was cold, meaning it was just tossed in. And the prawns weren't fresh, definitely stale on the verge of going bad. So, definitely not worth the price, nor the wait. Oh and edit to add, no pork lard and sotong given, which is different from every other review. And my friend ordered as t is Chili was the only ok bit.
