The smokiness, umami flavour, and freshly cooked dishes always bring us back to Shiok at Golden Mile during every SG trip! Their Hokkien Mee is consistently our most memorable brunch from Singapore. (+lard and +chilli on the side is the bomb!) 🤯👌

Shiok @ Golden Mile Hawker Center Price: $8 Umami: 9/10 (they focus on the wok hey smoky taste. The noodles and beehoon they fry just enough to maintain the chewy texture) Ingredients: 9/10 (can feel the freshness. Value for money though) Pork Lard: 6/10 (cruchy but a bit niao, so little) Chilli: 8/10 (The chilli is the belacan type. Can compliment the noddles well) Overall taste: 8.5/10 Young Hawkers been on the news recently. And they are expanding quickly with quite a few outlets. Hope they can maintain the quality and not over expand.

As a fellow Malaysian in Singapore for a 1-day work trip, I knew I had to dapao a HKM before my flight (no time to sit down) and I could not think of anywhere besides Shiok. Not my first time here but as always, it was satisfying. Yes, it was not the freshest by the time I had it for late dinner (some 5 hours after) but the noodles maintained structural integrity, prawns were plump and not rubbery, umami was very much present, and of course, the chili… I had to pour myself a cup of milk after the meal. Thumbs up to the pros at Shiok.

I'd say overall it's a good decent plate of hokkien mee. Pic shown is $5 small The noodles are on the firmer side Taste wise, lacking a little of that prawn flavour but other than that it's ok. Has that charred wok hey taste Nicely fried pork lard Chilli changes the dish, not spicy kind.

The taste was really good — the chilli was spicy and aromatic, pairing perfectly with the Hokkien Mee. The broth was rich and delicious, and the addition of crispy pork lard gave it that extra depth and fragrance that true Hokkien Mee lovers will appreciate. However, the only downside was the presence of too many tiny burnt flakes from the wok mixed into the noodles. If they could reduce those burnt bits, this would easily be a perfect bowl of Hokkien Mee.
