Keng Heng Whampoa Teochew Lor Mee is one of my favourite lor mee stalls around Singapore. It’s their ingredients that are very good. They are crispy fish skin, fried wanton and battered fish. The battered fish is thinly layered hence more fish than batter. Their gravy is tasty and my preference for more black vinegar in it makes it better. My lunch is $6 and it’s really worth every morsel I ate.

Used to have this Lor Mee many years ago, it was pretty good then. Recently tried this again, medium portion ($5) and noticed that like this current version is missing pork belly, which I feel is a key ingredient in Lor Mee. The crispy fish skin is great, fried fish and ngoh hiang are meh. The gravy with minced garlic, chili, and vinegar is on point as usual but the overall quality just feels a little lacking now.

Tried a bowl just before closing time (about 145pm). Had beehoon. The gravy is very starchy and gooey, so keeps its consistency but the texture while eating is not great bcos of that, hard to coat the noodles properly. Had to really mix it. Taste was average. I had the L portion which came with 3 crispy skin wantons, fish skin and 2 large battered fish pieces. The wantons were mainly crisps and had very little meat filling. The fish pieces were fish and chip style battered dory fish. I m not a super big fan of this type but if you like it, go for it. The uncle just fried then so they were piping hot. Fish skin is a nice crispy addition. Inside the bowl is some fish cake, ngoh hiang and bean sprouts. Sambal chilli is a nice touch, different flavour from regular chilli u get. Overall if you like your lor mee with lotsa crispy things, fish skin and thick battered fish pieces, this is the lor mee for u. I prefer mine with braised pork (this one no braised pork), braised egg (nope also) and fried fish in the more traditional style with less emphasis on crispy things/crisps. Nowadays its very hard to get good, real fried fish that is not cheap dory fish.

Had the Lor Mee in 20 Oct 2017. The Lor Mee is of my liking; from the gravy, to the starchyness of the yellow noodle, accompanied with several variety of ingredients, keeping your taste bud entertained throughout the whole meal.

Lor mee is a local hokkien dish that includes corn starch, spices, eggs, meat and seafood. While there are quite a number of stalls selling this dish in Singapore, not many of them are good enough to be mentioned. I have personally tried some and thought some of their standard is quite high. Keng heng teow chew lor mee is not your typical hokkien version, maybe that’s why i liked it more? Just by looking at the bowl of noodles, it looks so appetizing already. Fried fish skin, braised pork, fried fish nuggets, ngo hiang, fried wanton etc. Wow all these for $5 ah? A must try here. The 20mins queue is nothing when compared to this amazing dish. There are so many good food in this hawker center that we are just spoilt for choices.
