Braised pork rice is widely acknowledged to be of core Taiwanese origin. Despite that, and the vibe (the sorta Taiwanese colorful metal serving bowls), very little of the dish felt Taiwanese. It felt much more like a local dish, born of a fusion between the Taiwanese concept, and local braises. Really enjoyed it, would assert that this local braise is far more than the sum of its parts. Breaking down the specific components - the sauce was lovely. The onsen egg was exceptionally well done, and the serving of vegetables generous. The chinese mushroom given was fairly large, and the beancurd skin good as well. The pressed tofu was exceedingly well braised in comparison to most shops, where they braise for far too short a time. Looks likes it's become a bit of an institution here at Golden Mile over time, with the persistent long queue. Well-deserved. Tried to cure the hangover with braised pork to soak up the alcohol. Not scientifically backed ❌, didn't work ❌, but thats not their fault. 😂
