Song Shou Carrot Cake at Bedok is an absolute classic. The black version is truly spectacular—it has been consistently delicious since the first time I tried it back in 2007. It’s incredibly tasty and flavorful, perfectly balanced with that sweet dark soy sauce and a fantastic smoky "wok hei" aroma that makes every mouthful addictive. If you are looking for authentic, classic Singaporean carrot cake that never changes, this is the place. It's truly a must-try for both nostalgia and pure deliciousness!

A few key details you one look you can tell this one legit. Firstly, its family-run. Confirm the effort is there because if the food is not good, its literally the livelihood of the family that depends on this; for sure there is 100% effort and pride in bringing the good stuff across. Secondly, they do not allow mixing of black and white carrot cake options and when you are a purist like this, you can literally feel the pride from the way they make their food. Always go for black, and the balance of sweetness, savory and amount of egg mixed in was so good. Carrot cake itself was not mushy and gooey, and held a proper bounce to it where some can still clump together and not dry until everything falls apart like rice consistently which obviously should not be the case. That sweet spot, they got it. Nice job sia. 100%. Cheers!

I have eaten fried carrot cake all over Singapore and in my opinion this is the best and most consistent in ingredients, flavor and temperature. It’s a family operation with the father opening early and working till mid morning and then daughter or son taking over the cooking duties. I’m particularly partial to the fried black carrot cake with extra black and extra chili and every time it has been perfectly done. The fact they’ve been in business since 1979 and the loyal patrons is telling in itself of their quality. There is often a bit of a queue, but with their quick service the wait isn’t long and very much worth it.

I was very lucky to buy the black carrot cake when there was no queue. The carrot cake is fried just nice, with the eggs and black sauce nicely mixed. I was halfway through the carrot cake when i saw a queue starts to form.... wow... Will come back and try again!

Pretty decent carrot cake..its the moist kind and we asked for extra black so the extra black sauce taste was there. There were some parts that were slightly burnt so it had that crispy taste which was great! Will come back and eat next time
