The roasted meats at Jiu Jiang Shao La (九江燒臘) were absolutely delicious! The roast duck were perfectly cooked – crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, with a wonderful smoky flavor. The sauce paired so well with the meat, especially with rice. It felt like enjoying authentic Hong Kong-style roast right here. Definitely a place I’d love to come back to!

Finally tried this very well known and popular roast meat joint at Ghim Moh food centre. Upon reaching the hawker centre, i already noticed the insanely long queue at this stall. There were at least 15 people ahead of me and it took me alomost 20 mins before it was my turn to order. Over here, they have 3 different kind of roast meats, roast duck, roast pork and charsiew. Opted for the combination of roast duck and charsiew which was SGD$5, it comes with decent amount of meat. Roast duck has good flavor but on the drier side. Charsiu was nicely roasted and wasnt dry. Chili was not too bad either. Overall, the roast meats was okay but it didnt live up to my expectation. I had higher expecation based on the reviews but sadly it turns out the other way. Would i return? probably not.

Expected better given the past queues and reviews. Char Siew whilst nice chunks, was hard and dry even with layered fat inside, quite disappointing. Just Char Siew, rice, sauce and nothing else. She had to ask if I wanted chilli sauce, and not free flow self help - who does that!! It wasn’t even great such that people would drench the plate with it (Maybe benefit of doubt she already packed up as it was late lunch…). There were no sliced cucumbers nor coriander and $6.50! Try once and not returning. There are many more places with better value for money and taste. Left half the plate untouched. Ended up finishing my lunch with Tong Fong Fatt chicken rice and wiped that plate clean.

7/10. Duck meat is quite dry by itself. Tasted much better if eaten with skin. Roast pork and char siew is much better. Good portion. Open only for 3 days in a week and usually with a long queue.
