Hock Soon Carrot Cake

We have travelled to Singapore from Sydney many times and have been to Ghim Moh often but not to this outlet. We had mixed satay and black and white carrot cake. The dishes were excellent. Very friendly staff and quick service. Well done. See you again for sure.

Love the fried carrot cake black from this stall. Texture was soft and moist and it's not very sweet. That guy can fry up many plates of carrot cake in a few minutes thus the waiting time was not too long.

There are two stalls at Ghim Moh Market and Food Centre selling Fried Carrot Cake and although this one scores higher on Google (finally, because it didn’t use to) the other one has a much longer queue. To me, and apparently more and more so, Hock Soon Carrot Cake fries a better plate, still soft in the middle, with nice ‘sticky/gummy’ charred bits peppered here and there, without being burnt.. that’s having perfect control over the strength of the burner flames. I’m of two minds here and always have been, that on one hand I’m happy that when I get there here is where there will be a shorter queue which means a shorter waiting time for my plate, but I also do kinda feel bad for this nice couple who has been operating here for years, that their biz really ought to be better… At this stall I prefer how they do a ‘black’ version of the dish (over the white version) and my usual order, a small plate, black, extra egg and extra spicy..

Ordered the rojak and it is so good. One of the best rojak i have tried. It comes in $4, $5 or $6 . I ordered the $5 and the portion is pretty generous. I ask for more lime which makes the dish even more flavourful. Highly recommended.

Black version fried carrot cake $4 portion. The black version is fried dark and sticky sweet with a good amount of cai po. The chili has a slight kick. Enjoyed it very much and Happy to order this anytime.
